“I almost feel like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon.”

After nearly 16 months of safety and solitude, this is how one of my friends and neighbors described the gradual return to group activities, communal worship, and ad hoc coffee gatherings with neighbors. But in the very next breath, she asserts that she is so thankful to have weathered the pandemic as a member of the Cedar Community family. The “cocoon” of our campus family—neighbors, team members, and our health care heroes—brought a great measure of comfort to her and her family. She knew she was never truly alone.

And there, so simply stated, is the blessing of Cedar Community. And also there, is the incredible blessing of your generous Partners In Caring support via your annual Butterfly Release Sponsorship gift.

For the past 10 years, Cedar Community has honored and remembered the loved ones of friends and neighbors through our Butterfly Release and Celebration of Life. Last year you supported our reimagined event—focused on bringing the event to small groups of our friends and neighbors across all our campuses. As we continue our gradual and thoughtful return to communal gatherings and activities, we will again be focused on celebrating with larger groups of residents across our five campuses.

The resident portion of the event will occur the week of August 4-10 as we bring the Butterfly Release to our Independent Living,  Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing and Long-Term Care campuses—allowing them to enjoy reflections, crafts, butterfly treats, and a live butterfly release to remember and celebrate loved ones lost during the pandemic.

Then, on Saturday, August 14, at 11:00 a.m. we will be hosting our Virtual Butterfly Release on Facebook and inviting friends and neighbors to participate. The public will be invited to share photos and crafts, as well as memories of their loved ones on our Virtual Memorial Wall. We hope that this community-wide celebration of life will bring us all together in spirit!

It is my sincere hope that you will choose to support our friends and neighbors through this year's event!

We invite you to visit our Facebook Butterfly Release Event Page for more information on how you can participate.

If you would like to make a gift in honor or memory of a loved one, you are invited to do so!  All proceeds from this year’s virtual event will support our Partners In Caring program—supporting our friends and neighbors whose financial resources have run short and who can no longer cover the cost of their care alone.
